I want to build a cheap computer to use as a file server over my WiFi network. I want to make it on the cheap and these are the most affordable components I’ve found online.
-Budget Socket 754 Mobo w/ integrated LAN & GPU
-Sempron 64 3000+
-G-Skill 512MB PC3200
-Budget case w/ 350w PSU
-Lite-on Combo Drive
-Samsung 160GB 7200RPM HDD
-Shipping
Are these components acceptable?

They should be fine. But I have a few suggestions.
I would not skimp so much on the motherboard, stick to Asus,Abit, MSI, Epox, DFI, Gigabyte or Soyo. You can still find budget boards from them for rather cheap.
You might want to get a bigger hard drive if you are planning on using this for file storage. Not to mention more ram if you are going to have multiple computers accessing it.
AMD is a good set up for gaming, for multitasking, "server" your going to want an intel processor…..other than that you should be fine. You can always add more ram later on……
Try this link and check out some intel celeron D’s that come with a motherboard…….socket 775 will allow you to upgrade to a dual core "intel core 2 dou" in the future. Your current setup, socket 754 will run a 64 bit AMD, but it wont take a dual core processor, the AMD 64 x2 is not supported……

Sounds good, just watch out on lite-on, i own one that works fine, but i have heard many negative things about them.
like the guy before me more ram and go with a Western Digital drive i have had no issues with them at all and you can get 100 more GB for $10
if all you’ll be using it for is files, get a NAS (network attached storage) device, like Western Digital’s 160GB NetCenter. It’s $117.99 at newegg.com, plus free shipping, so for less than what you’re looking to spend, you could have twice the capacity. It is wired, so you would need a free port for each on your wireless router.
